JENNIFER ROGERS
ARTIST SPOTLIGHT | HANDWEAVERS’ GUILD OF CONNECTICUT

BIOGRAPHY
Jennifer Rogers is the Program Coordinator of Weaving Newtown in Connecticut. She is passionate about the lifelong learning that weaving offers and enjoys teaching others the craft. Jennifer began her weaving journey in 2013 and joined the Handweavers’ Guild of Connecticut in 2016. In 2023, she achieved her Journeyman rating, and her goal is to become a Master Weaver.

VISION
Jennifer Rogers’s custom woven overshot wall hangings are explorations of the “Rosette” design created by Bertha Gray Hayes, with colors inspired by beach glass. Overshot is a traditional weaving technique that combines a plain weave ground with thicker shots of pattern that float over and under it. Jennifer selected this weave structure to honor the work of Rhode Island resident Weaver Rose (1839-1913), a prominent New England weaver who not only created overshot designs but also collected weaving drafts dating back to the 1700s, preserving an important historical record.
