ELIZABETH HILL
ARTIST SPOTLIGHT | WEAVERS GUILD OF RHODE ISLAND
BIOGRAPHY
Elizabeth Hill has called South County home for 45 years. She began weaving at the Saunderstown Weaving School a decade ago, where she continues to learn and explore various aspects of weaving, primarily focusing on floor loom techniques. Her inspiration comes from her interactions with both beginner and seasoned weavers. Elizabeth is a member and past board member of the Weavers Guild of Rhode Island and currently serves on the board of the Rhode Island Weaving Center in Wakefield. The connections she has formed at the weaving school have significantly contributed to her passion for and exploration of weaving.
VISION
Elizabeth Hill draws inspiration from Narragansett Bay, where she often stands on the beach, observing the ever-changing colors of the water as the surf rolls in and creates ripples on the sandy shore. The sun and clouds significantly influence the hues of the water, while the shifting currents and even minor weather changes can transform the otherwise placid surface into a dynamic scene. At any given moment, the view of the Bay is unique. In her work, Elizabeth has selected a variety of textures and hues that, combined with her weaving patterns, reflect the beautiful images of Narragansett Bay.
