CHERYL MINCONE
ARTIST SPOTLIGHT | WEAVERS GUILD OF RHODE ISLAND

BIOGRAPHY
Cheryl Mincone is a handweaver and designer residing in Barrington, RI. She has a design education from Syracuse University and the Boston Architectural Center, followed by a career in interiors. While working as a stay-at-home parent, Cheryl focused on fiber art, creating her own “soft furnishings” and textiles for the home. Currently, her design sensibility seeks to find the intersection between craft, art, and function. Her work has been published in Art Scope Magazine, Shuttle Spin & DyePot, and Beadwork Magazine. She has exhibited with the Surface Design Association and the Handweavers Guild of America, as well as locally at the Hera Gallery and Fuller Craft Museum.

VISION
As a weaver who works with repeat motifs, Cheryl Mincone finds inspiration in her surroundings by the water. The sunlight creates patterns on the surface of the water, the wind alters the appearance of the sand, and discarded rope reveals its intricate structure. She utilizes natural blends of blues, grays, and greens to reflect the landscape, while the contrast between light and dark highlights the texture of her subjects.
